A user going by the names Alex Star and Friendlyh4xx0r has begun targeting Chromecasts on networks with poor security in support of Youtuber PewDiePie. The scope of how many Chromecasts were affected by the hacker’s script is currently unknown, however a number of people have already expressed their displeasure with Friendlyh4xx0r. Based off of several of the comments made by friendlyh4xx0r, he views himself in much the same way as HackerGiraffe does–the hacker who began attacks on printers. The hacker’s script plays a video on targeted Chromecast devices asking users to subscribe to PewDiePie on YouTube. Unlike HackerGiraffe, FriendlyH4xx0r did post directions on how to stop his script from being able to play the video on affected Chromecasts.
