According to a spokesman for the Idaho Department of Corrections inmates in Idaho prisons have exploited a vulnerability in payment systems to steal nearly a quarter of a million dollars. 364 inmates utilized a vulnerability in the prison’s JPay tablets, which are used for email, music, and games, to credit their own accounts in amounts ranging from $1,000 to $10,000. The JPay system is utilized not only in Idaho but in prisons all across the United States meaning that the total value stolen nationwide could possibly be significantly greater than the nearly $225,000 discovered in Idaho.
