A hacker calling themselves VirusSec has taken credit for an attack on South Africa’s Department of Environmental Affairs’ website. VirusSec also claimed credit for an attack on the main website for the South African President as well. Both attacks were DDoS attacks of a currently unknown magnitude. In August of 2017, VirusSec had attacked other websites belonging to the South African government for “allowing the sale of rhino and lion bones.” When taking credit for these most recent attacks, VirusSec stated that “you are destroying the future of these animals.”
